Donald Trump said that he’ll reclaim “America’s proud destiny in space” by sending American astronauts to the moon, and one day Mars.
With Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk the moon, standing next to him, US president Donald Trump vowed to send American astronauts back to the moon, and one day Mars.
“It is America’s destiny to be at the forefront of humanity’s eternal quest for knowledge and to be the leader amongst nations on our adventure into the great unknown,” Mr. Trump said at a press conference.
After his speech, the US president signed “Space Policy Directive 1”, which will allow NASA to “to lead an innovative space exploration program to send American astronauts back to the moon.”
But Trump’s goals are beyond the moon, and with China recently announcing a space campaign, America wants to stay ahead.
“This time, we will not only plant our flag and leave our footprint, we will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars,” he said, “and perhaps, someday, to many worlds beyond.”
The United States of America was the first, and only, country to ever land astronauts on Earth’s moon.

On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin set off to become the first humans to land on the moon.
A day later, Neil Armstrong made history as he took humanity’s first step on a foreign planet, saying “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
Over the past few decades saw little effort to send manned mission to other planets. However, many countries are today working on space programs that include sending astronauts to the moon and Mars.
