The first trailer for the Power Rangers movie is out, and it is nothing like what anyone expected.
If you are old enough you surely have heard or watched the Power Rangers. The American franchise debuted in August 1993, with their Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a show for little kids about a group of teens with with superpowers, awesome suits and crime-fighting robots.
Despite being criticized for violence, the show ran for 23 seasons and 19 different themed series, as well as two films.
However, this upcoming spring the Power Rangers are back with their biggest production ever. Lionsgate unveiled the first trailer at the New York Comic-Con on October 8, and it is not the Power Rangers you remember.
The original series were targeted to kids, so the action was mildly comical. However, from what we can see from this trailer is a darker look into the world of the 5 rainbow-colored teen rangers.
Being released in March 2017, the movie stars RJ Cyler, Becky G, Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott and Ludi Lin, with the villian Rita Repulsa being played by Elizabeth Banks and robot Alpha 5 voice by SNL star Bill Hader.
The plot revolves largely around the original concept, where five high school students Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Jason are chosen by mentor Zordon, played by Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, to become the Power Rangers. Their first mission will be to protect their small town of Angel Grove from the alien invasion led by Rita Repulsa.
