Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast supposedly gives you the energy and nutrients you need to go about your day, but most people have coffee alongside breakfast.
Coffee, the world’s most consumed brewed drink is an international favorite morning drink that people use to get a kick of energy. Many studies have shown benefits in coffee, but its disadvantages remain undisputed.
The active ingredient in coffee is caffeine, a psychoactive drug which stimulates the nervous system, however this drug is not illegal and is not regulated, which leaves its disadvantages open for anyone to sip. Caffeine has been proven to cause, or be involved in the development of insomnia, nervousness and restlessness, stomach aches, nausea, vomiting, increased heart and breathing rate, anxiety, among other side effects you wouldn’t want to have.
Even though coffee tastes great, here are a few alternatives that can give you that jump-start you need in the morning, without the possibility of side effects.
Believe it or not, the best option can be an apple. Have an apple washed and ready to bite into few minutes after you wake up will give you a spark and that urge to fall back asleep will go away.
Another great way to revitalize your body and mind is ginseng tea. Throw a few ginseng roots into a pot of boiling water for a while and there you have it. Other than helping you stay cool under hot weather, ginseng will boost your mind’s alertness effectively and balance your bodies natural order.
Maybe most shockingly, water. Water will help all your organs restart in a healthy manner. Have a long glass of water shortly after waking will help you snap out of the early morning daze. Adding lemon juice and zest to warm water is even more effective, since lemon water will help you in way you never imagined. Lemon water is a rich source of vitamin C, it reduces inflammation, helps in fighting viral infections, it’s an excellent source of potassium and is a great detox.
