Doha Hosts World Military Shooting Championship

49th CISM World Military Shooting Championship

The 49th CISM World Military Shooting Championship just took off in Doha.

Around 720 shooters from 50 international teams have gathered in Doha for the 49th CISM World Military Shooting Championship. The event kicked-off today at the the Losail Shooting Range with an extravagant opening ceremony.

The tournament is organized by the Qatar Armed Forces, and will test the skills of the world’s best shooters across six shooting disciplines. Some of the participants are Olympic medal winners and former world champions, and will be representing their country’s military throughout the championship.

The organizer’s, Qatar Armed Forces, are in terms represented in the tournament themselves as well. A team of 29 highly skilled shooters will be representing the nation, along with 10 tournament officials. The Qatari team has spent month in preparation for the games. Just last month they trained at a special shooting camp in Switzerland.

The World Military Shooting Championship came to Doha after being held in South Korea last November, where it had traveled from Switzerland, where it had been held the year before.

This is the first time Doha hosts this particular event, but in 2013 they hosted the Second CISM International Shotgun Championship at the same venue. 65 shooters took part in the Trap and Skeet categories, at the event which was organized in collaboration between the Qatar Armed Forces and CISM.

The Military World Games is a multidisciplinary sports event specialized for military athletes. It is organized by International Military Sports Council, and have been held once every four years since 1995.
