Among all the things the world can divide over, we are currently divided over whether a robot voice recording is saying Yanny or Laurel.
Once again an internet debate has the divided, and this time it is over a simple recording. Is it Yanny or Laurel? Some people hear the first, while others insist its the second.
Listen and decide for yourself:

What did you hear? While I, as well as most people at my office, heard Yanny, according to Google Laurel is winning.
However, there’s a very scientific explanation to why and how some people hear one thing while other hear another.
The truth of the matter is that the robot is saying both names at once. It is a recording of both names layered on top of each other, one saying Yanny and one saying Laurel.

Since your brain is unable to process both names at once, it picks one of them and sticks with it. That is why once you hear one name, it becomes really hard to hear the other.
Since younger people are better at hearing higher pitches of sound, they are most likely to hear Yanny. That would make people who can’t pick up high pitched sounds hear Laurel.
But hearing Laurel doesn’t mean your hearing is bad, it just means that they aren’t as sensitive as they once were.
