Professor Stephen Hawking Has Died

The death of Stephen Hawking, known for his theories on black holes, has been announced by his family

Known to be one of the most brilliant men of our century, Prof. Stephen Hawking has passed away at 76.

Diagnosed with motor neuron disease at 21, Stephen Hawking had lived expecting early death most of his life. Expected to live only a few years beyond his diagnosis, he went on to live more than 50 more years, contributing greatly to science.

“I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first,” he told The Guardian in 2011.

Known as one of the greatest scientific mind in history of the world, he has shed light on some of best kept secrets of the universe.

His best-known work involves the origins of the universe, the nature of black holes, and the possibility of time travel.

In fact, Hawking’s most popular theory is one suggesting that black holes aren’t really black, but that they emit radiation – often called Hawking radiation.

Born on January 8, in Oxford, England, he was married twice. To Jane Wilde from 1965 until 1995, and Elaine Mason from 1995 until 2006.

Speaking about his life’s mission, Hawking said that “My goal is simple, it is complete understanding of the universe: why it is as it is, and why it exists at all.”
