Silicon Valley startup Impossible Foods has gotten backing by Bills Gates and Google Ventures for their meatless burger.

California startup Impossible Foods believe that they have engineer a tasty burger that doesn’t contain any real beef. Now they are preparing to launch the meatless burgers across restaurants in New York City.

Despite containing no animal products, the meatless burger is allegedly identical in taste to a real burger and can be enjoyed by both vegetarian and vegans as well.

A select number of restaurants in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco have been serving the Impossible Burger on their menus since it launched in 2016.

Instead of containing beef, it contains heme, the molecule responsible for beef’s metallic taste and reddish color, wheat protein for texture and coconut oil.

People who are keen on trying out the meatless burgers can do so starting February 2, at Saxon + Parole and the Michelin-starred Public in NYC, both of which under the leadership of Executive Chef Brad Farmerie.

Since its establishment in 2011, Impossible Foods have been working on developing plant-based meats like steak, bacon, poultry and fish, as well as milk and cheese. Among their many investors are Bill Gates and Google Ventures.

The company hopes that people will ditch eat meat once they are aware on the damages the livestock industry does to the planet. The industry take up some 30% of Earth’s surface and emits 10% of all industrial greenhouses gases.
