The Empire State Building illuminated in the colors of Qatar Airways

New York City’s most iconic skyscraper, the Empire State Building, celebrated 10 years of Qatar Airways in USA.

Ten years have passed since Qatar Airways first landed in the New York and started their operations in the USA. To celebrate a decade of quality services, NYC’s most iconic landmark, the Empire State Building, illuminated the city’s skyline in the colors of Qatar Airways – burgundy and white.

“We were honored to display our colors on one of the most iconic skyscrapers in the world, and the headquarters of our USA and Americas Regional offices, the Empire State Building. We believe this is a true testament to our positive presence and fantastic support in the United States,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.

The celebrations however go far beyond lighting up a skyscraper. The airline is offering special deals on flights from the US to more than 100 destinations, as well as bonus Qmiles for Privilege Club frequent flyer members.

Qatar Airways’ first flight to the US was to New York City, on June 28, 2007. Less than a month later, the airlines was also flying in and out of Washington DC, and as of 2016 had operations to and from more than 10 American cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Boston and Atlanta.

When it comes to the Empire State Building and Qatar Airways, the two have a relationship that goes beyond the latter renting out office space in the former. Qatar’s sovereign wealth fun happens to own the country’s national carrier, as well as shares in the skyscraper.

Back in August 2016, the Qatar Investment Authority bought a 10% share in the building through a $622 million investment to the Empire State Realty Trust.

Earlier this month, Skytrax, the leading consumer aviation website, named Qatar Airways as the best airline in the world for the fourth time during the World Airline Awards at the 2017 Paris Air Show.

In addition to the world’s best airline, the carrier was awarded best business class in the world and best airline in the Middle East.
