Nintendo Won E3 With Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey

It is the biggest, wildest and most fun Super Mario game we have ever seen, and we’ve only watched the trailer.

If you haven’t spent hours playing any of the earlier Super Mario games as a kid, you can’t really call yourself a gamer. And even though the Mario games became slightly boring after Super Mario Sunshine, Odyssey is bringing back the action.

Here’s the challenge: try watching this trailer to end without feeling nostalgic and wanting to play it ASAP.

It’s impossible. There’s so much of the Mario we are used to, and even more of how we’d expect Mario to develop. Finally, Nintendo are on the right track with this.

The game is very similar to Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, where you have to roam across the kingdom to find hidden levels, finish all their challenges and collect victory stars (Power Moons in Odyssey). However, this time you will be travelling on a hat-shaped ship named “Odyssey”.

Even though it sounds a bit old, there’s much new to it, like New York City-inspired “New Donk City” and a Tyrannosaurus rex. But the newest feature we’re excited about is the Mario’s cap, as seen in the trailer, Mario has the ability to throw “Cappy” on enemies and temporary possessing them.

For the first time ever in a Super Mario game like this can you be a Goomba or the bullet that shoots out of green pipes (I always hated those).

The sad part about all of this is that, of course, the game is only made for the Nintendo Switch – making a good cause to buy it. It is scheduled to be released on October 27 worldwide.
