Qatar National Sport Day 2017 Activities & Schedules

Qatar National Sport Day 2017 is next week and we have compiled all activities in one place for you.

As you might have heard, the sixth annual Qatar National Sport Day is happening this upcoming week. On Tuesday, February 14, it is the day to get active, all over Qatar you’ll find sports activities and events fit for the young and old alike.

The government adopted the Qatar National Sport Day six years ago to promote healthier lifestyles among people living and Qatar, and made the second Tuesday of every February a public holiday for the cause.

In case you’re overwhelmed or confused about all the activities going on, we have found the biggest ones for you.

However, keep in mind that the Qatar Meteorology Department has predicted rain and thunder for the day, so you might want to wear warm clothes and water resistant shoes.

Aspire Zone

Over the years, Aspire Zone has become one of the biggest hosts of Qatar National Sport Day and this year is no different.

Their schedule is full with activities starting as early as 6 am. They are hosting their annual 3K fun run, football, basketball and volleyball tournaments, as well as calisthenics demonstrations, parachute games and movement with music.

Their Pitch 10 will be designated for the younger athletes and will have fun activities like bouncy forts, obstacle courses and football games.

There will also be activities limited to women at Aspire Dome from 10 AM until 1 PM. Ladies from all ages can head down for gymnastics classes and basketball games under the supervision of Aspire Academy’s Multi-Sport Skill Development program coaches.

Aspire will also be introducing some new sports to Qatar, like Nordic walking, and sport that burns off calories by the pound and helps achieve overall health and fitness. Starting 11 AM in front of Aspetar, specialists will be giving a crash course into the sport.

Also early in the morning, starting at 9 AM, there will a demonstration of Kendo, one of the world’s oldest surviving martial arts, in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Doha at Pitch 10.

And perfect in case there is rain, there will be several indoor activities, including wall climbing, football and fitness and gym classes from the ASPIRE ACTIVE program. For more info check out their website.

MIA Park

MIA Park is being used by Ooredoo, who are yet to release a schedule, but usually put on great activities for Sport Day, like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, gladiator joust, circuit training, football and kayaking.

Katara

Qatar National Sport Day at Katara

The Katara Cultural Village will be hosting a full schedule that is free for everyone.

There will be a jogging race for residents of 50 starting at 6 AM at Gate 1, Beach 3.

Participants can register between February 11 and 13 via phone on 4408 1421, or email through info@katara.net, as well as on their website.

The venue will also be used by Qatar Universities who are setting up a bunch of interesting events, like beach soccer and beach volleyball championships, physical fitness and sports training sessions, and a paragliding show by the QU Air Sports Club.

Qatar Foundation

The Qatar Foundation will hosting their activities at the newly-opened Oxygen Park in Education City.

Starting 9 AM, the area will be turned in the an arena for The Game of Games, a tournament in which students and school staff will compete in strength, balance, concentration, strategy, and enthusiasm.

Asian Town

Qatar National Sport Day at Asian Town

Asian Town will just off the Industrial Area will also host several activities, including a cricket match, a volleyball tournament and a tug war starting 8 AM and continuing into nightfall.

Al Wakrah

Qatar National Sport Day at Al Wakra Sport Club

Al Wakrah Sport Club have invited the Indian football star Muhammad Rafi to their event, which includes a parade through town, races, a tug war and football matches.
