Qatar FIFA Ranking Soars Amid Asia Cup Victory

Qatar National Football team jumped FIFA ranking after winning 2019 AFC Asian Cup

The Qatar National Football Team just jumped up 38 spots in FIFA ranking after winning the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

It is official, the newly crowned Asian champions Qatar National Football Team is now ranked the best team in the Gulf region and fifth in all of Asia.

The Maroons, as they are also known, just jumped 38 spots in FIFA ranking to occupy the 55th spot, their best ranking since 1993.

Runners-up and previous AFC Asian Cup champions Japan jumped to the 27th spot, 23 spots ahead of their last ranking.

The Qatari team beat Japan at the final of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup 3-1 at Zayed Sports City Stadium on February 1.

Qatar is currently preparing to host the FIFA 2022 World Cup, which will be the first one they participate in. It will be the first time the tournament takes place in an Arab country.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on April 4, 2019, which is due to see changes since nations outside of Asia will have played matches until then.
