Netflix and Guillermo del Toro will make Pinocchio musical

Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro is going to write and direct a Pinocchio musical for Netflix.

Regarded to as one of the most creative and visionary filmmakers in history, Guillermo del Toro might be creating his next masterpiece for Netflix. The streaming service has announced that they have asked the Mexican artist write and direct a stop-motion musical adaptation of Pinocchio.

Although this will be the first time del Toro directeds an animated feature film, he has plenty of experience from being executive producer on box office hits like Megamind, Kung Fu Panda and Puss in Boots.

As for his partnership with Netflix, the duo previously delivered the series Trollhunters, a computer-animated fantasy saga, a del Toro creation.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, del Toro said: “I’ve wanted to make this movie for as long as I can remember.” Stating also that “no art form has influenced my life and my work more than animation and no single character in history has had as deep of a personal connection to me as Pinocchio.”

The movie is already in pre-production, and a the storyline is pretty much figured out, he revealed.

“In our story, Pinocchio is an innocent soul with an uncaring father who gets lost in a world he cannot comprehend,” he said. “He embarks on an extraordinary journey that leaves him with a deep understanding of his father and the real world.”

Who will star in the movie remains a secret, but we do know that The Jim Henson Company and ShadowMachine will be taking care of the animation. They are known for delivered shows like BoJack Horseman.
