Elon Musk will send a Japanese billionaire and eight other people for a vacation around the moon.

Elon Musk has announced that he will be sending Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa and a number of artists to the world’s first private trip to the moon through his rocket company SpaceX.

Yusaku Maezawa will cover the trip’s expenses for himself and between six and eight different artists and creative people, during which they will tour the the moon for a full week.

He hopes that the trip will become a major public event and gain global attention, which it most likely will.

The trip will be made on board SpaceX’s Big Falcon Rocket in 2023, Elon Musk, the company’s founder and CEO announced during a press event at his California headquarters on Monday. The company had previously said that it would launch its first private lunar flight this year..

As for Yusaku Maezawa, he said that he wants his guests “to see the moon up close, and the Earth in full view, and create work to reflect their experience.”

Maezawa is the founder of Japan’s largest shopping website and one of its richest people. He has paid “a lot of money” for the trip, said Musk, but declined to reveal the exact amount. It is estimated to be no less than $150 million.

“I wish to create amazing works of art for humankind,” Mr Maezawa said, who, according to Musk, came to SpaceX with the idea for the flight.

The Big Falcon Rocket, a reusable 118-meter rocket, will have to undergo several unmanned lift-offs before it carries passengers.
