How To Keep Apples Fresh

the humidity drawer in your fridge could trap moisture in apples and keep them fresh

Bought to many apples? There’s a simple way to keep them fresh and tasty for a longer period of time.

It happens to us all. For some reason, we come back from the grocery store carrying more apples than we can eat over the next few days. In a situation like this, the apples are most likely to rot before you can get to eating them all, but they don’t have to.

You might have noticed that grocery stores keep spraying fresh fruits and vegetables with mist. That is because moisture keeps some produce from spoiling, and apples are among them.

Humidity keeps apples from losing water, preventing shrinkage and spoilage.

The best temperature to store apples in is zero degrees Celsius, and the best humidity is between 90 and 95 percent. But since very few have a cold cellar to keep them in, the fridge can be of similar use.

You can wet a towel and wrap it around your apples and place them in the coldest part of the fridge. Or, you could also keep them in the fresh produce drawer in your fridge. It is specifically designed to keep them fresh for longer.
