Hollywood star of Deliverance and Smokey and the Bandit, Burt Reynolds, is dead at 82.

While younger generations might not know who Burt Reynolds is, he was the epitome of masculinity and ruggedness in the 70s, somewhat like Bruce Willis today.

The American actor is known for starring in movies like Deliverance, Smokey and the Bandit, and Boogie Nights, the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination.

Erik Kritzer, Reynolds’ manager, announced yesterday that the actor had passed away at the Jupiter Medical Centre in Jupiter, Florida.

With his family beside him, he passed away due to cardiac arrest. Reynolds had previously undergone heart surgery in 2010.

Having started off on the small screen, Burt Reynolds’ career boomed in 1972, after he starred as Lewis Medlock in Deliverance.

Throughout his career he appeared in nearly 200 movies and shows, and he’s not done yet. He will appear posthumously in Defining Moments, which is scheduled to premier in December.

Reynolds was also expected to be in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, alongside Hollywood A-listers such as Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Margot Robbie. Sadly, we will never get to see him in it.

Burt Reynolds is survived by his only son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, who he had with his second wife (of five years) and actress Loni Anderson.
