Team Qatar performed brilliantly at the 2018 Asian Games and brought home 6 medals; 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.

Abdalelah Haroun, Ashraf Amjad Alsaify and Abdulrahman Samba each secured a gold medal for Team Qatar at the 2018 Asian Games, while Young Tosin Ogunode and Faris Ibrahim secured silver, and Hamad Ali Al-Marri bronze.

It took Haroun 44.89 seconds to secure the gold medal at the GBK Main Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia. He was followed by India’s Muhammad Anas Yahiya (45.69) and Bahrain’s Ali Khamis (45.70), who finished second and third respectively.

Hammer thrower Ashraf Alsaify threw an astonishing 2.72 meters further than his closest competition (76,88M), securing the gold. Tajikistan’s Dilshod Nazarov finished second with a 74.16 meter heave, and Kazakhstan’s Sukhrob Khodjaev, with a 74.06 meter throw, finished third.

Not only did Abdulrahman Samba also win a gold medal, but he set a new Asian Games record at the men’s hurdles, finishing in 47.66.

Tosin Ogunode, who is the younger brother of successful Qatari sprinter Femi, finished second in the men’s 100 meter sprint. He clocked an exact 10 seconds, which was 0,08 seconds slower than China’s Su Bingtian, who set a new Asian Games record..

Young Fares Ibrahim won a silver medal at the weightlifting event. At the age of 20 years old, Ibrahim outclassed his opponents by lifting 381kg. He was second to Iran’s Sohrab Moradi, who lifted 410kg.
