Cleaning Your Silver Jewelry At Home

it takes more than water when cleaning silver jewelry

Having fancy things is nice, but taking care of them can be expensive. But it doesn’t have to cost you money to care for your silver jewelry.

Silver jewelry looks quite beautiful when you first buy it, but with time it can change color and look kind of worn out and cheap. This is because silver jewelry usually contain copper, which reacts with moisture in the air to develop dark layer.

When that happens, you can, of course, head down to the nearest jeweler and have it cleaned. But this can be costly, and unnecessary, especially since you can easily clean it with household products.

If your silver just started changing color, a mixture of mild soap and warm water can do the trick. Dip a piece of soft cloth in the water and rub the piece of silver until you feel it looks shiny enough.

But for silver that had been left to age a little, you’d need to get more creative.

In a bowl, mix three parts baking soda with one part water, dip a piece of cloth and rub your silver. Make sure to use extra soft cloth so that it doesn’t scratch your jewelry.

Afterwards, rinse with water and dry it well.
