Qatar Screens Women For Military Service

The specialized committee has started its efforts to introduce women to military service in Qatar.

The Standing Committee for the Selection of Candidates for Military Officers has announced that they have started working on creating a ‘women’s committee’ that will be responsible of interviewing and screening women for military service.

Last year, the Emir of Qatar and Commander-in-Chief of the Qatari Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani issued a decree allowing women to serve in national armed forces.

The women eligible to join the country’s army are secondary school graduates of the this, or last year.

Asked to facilitate the process and remove any difficulties the candidates might face, the program will be sponsored and closely monitored by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Deference Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah.

The permanent unified committee for selecting nominees for military entities will be supervised by HE the Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Major General (Pilot) Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim.

The new recruits will not be joining their mates in field, but will instead fill out technical positions within the national army in fields such as engineering, communications, computer engineering, medicine, aviation engineering and more.
