Move over Jared Leto, for it is Joaquin Phoenix who will be the next Joker, Warner Bros. announced.
We have heard a lot of rumors and speculations, but finally the truth is out. Joaquin Phoenix will star in the upcoming Joker movie, which now has an official name and release date.
The movie will be directed by Todd Phillips, best known for writing and directing Road Trip, Old School, Starsky & Hutch, The Hangover Trilogy, Due Date and War Dogs.

It has been named, typically, Joker, and will premier in cinemas on October 4, 2019.
Phillips, described the movie as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”
While Warner Bros. spent $300 million on Justice League and $149 million on Wonder Woman (their lowest DC movie budget), they are only giving Joker a mere $55 million.

The strange thing about Joaquin Phoenix playing the role is that Jared Leto is not completely out of the picture.
Leto is still under contract to be the Joker in at least 3 other movies, Suicide Squad 2, a solo movie and a Harley Quinn-Joker movie.
Phoenix finalized the deal to play Batman’s arch-nemesis last month, with production scheduled to begin within a few months.
