Bedrock City: A Flintstones Amusement Park

Bedrock city arizona is a theme park inspired by the Flintstones

Just half an hour from the Grand Canyon lies a tourist attraction from the stone age, the Flintstones-inspired Bedrock City.

Children of today will never understand how big the Flintstones were back in the day, which makes this theme park a gem for us older generations to cherish. If you ever find yourself near the Grand Canyon, pass by Bedrock City and live a day like a modern stone age family.

Opened in 1972, the park wasn’t the first of its kind. The owners built it after they had opened a the Flintstones Bedrock City, an 62-acre theme park and campground, in South Dakota in 1966.

The concept is the brainchild of Linda and Francis Speckles, a married couple who bout the 6-acre property and turned into a unique tourist attraction.

Through out the park you can find two concrete houses – the Flintstones and Rubble residences – and statues of the iconic cartoon characters.

Although popular among passersby, the remote location of the park made it hard for management to keep employees and attract a larger number of visitors. This has forced Linda Speckels to put the property up for sale.

Her asking price in 2015 was $2 million, but there hasn’t been any buyers so far.

Doubling as an RV campground and parking site, Bedrock City is definitely a must see if you’re ever in the area. It is one of those touristic treasures that no one knows about and you’ll be the only one among your friends to have ever visited.
