A Lord of the Rings TV Series Is In The Making

Amazon Studios have announced a Lord of the Rings TV series

Amazon Studios has bought the rights to produce a Lord of the Rings TV series and it will be most expensive show ever.

The epic fantasy tale of Lord of the Rings is making a comeback as a TV series. Amazon Studios has secured the rights of J. R. R. Tolkien novels with a record-breaking deal worth $250 million.

While few details are known about the new series, we know that it will be five seasons-long, with the first focusing on a young Aragon who was portrayed by Viggo Mortensen in the films.

Rather than being a direct adaptation of the novel, the series will be derived from Tolkien’s appendices and notes, and will be focusing on a new story with a different character each season.

Although the studio has committed to five seasons, with production starting anytime within the next two years, Amazon has said that there may be additional spin-offs in the future as well.

Many of the film actors said that they wouldn’t be returning to their roles in the series adaptation. Sir Ian McKellen however said that he would accept returning as Gandalf is asked.

“What do you mean, another Gandalf?” he told presenter Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2, “I haven’t said yes because I haven’t been asked. But are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it? Gandalf is over 7,000 years old, so I’m not too old.”
