Former US President Barack Obama & His Wife Michelle Join Netflix

The Obamas, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will produce series and films for Netflix

What does one do after being a US President? Produce series and films for Netflix, of course.

Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have signed a deal to make several series and films for Netflix, the streaming service said.

“The Obamas will produce a diverse mix of content, including the potential for scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries and features. These projects will be available to the 125 million member Netflix households in 190 countries,” said a press release on the company blog.

The Obama productions will be created by a company called Higher Grounds Productions, which was founded by the former president and first lady.

While supporters plead that the couple make content that attacks the current US Administration and conservative news outlets, they said that they will instead focus on voicing issues they dealt with while in office.

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” Obama said according to the statement.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said that their content will mainly focus on different communities and storytelling, and will be unlike the average political themes in today’s media.

“Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly-recognized public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better,” he said.

“We are incredibly proud they have chosen to make Netflix the home for their formidable storytelling abilities.”
