Marvel Rolls Out Muslim Superhero Movie

kamala khan (ms marvel) will be the first muslim superhero to get her own movie after captain marvel (Carol Danvers)

Marvel have announced a new movie where the superhero is a Muslim woman – Ms Marvel.

Although Brie Larson will star as Captain Marvel in 2019, the characters alter-ego, a sequel with a female Muslim lead “is definitely sort of in the works,” Avengers Infinity War producer Kevin Feige told BBC.

As the comic books go, there are two Ms Marvel, the first is Carol Danvers which will be played by Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, while the other is Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager from New Jersey.

Khan idolises Carol Danvers, who passes on the mantle of Ms. Marvel to her once she becomes Captain Marvel.

Already the internet has gone crazy over who will play the part, with most support going to Priyanka Chopra, who voiced Kamala Khan in the mobile video game Marvel: Avengers Academy.

However, other fans believed that the role should be given to someone actually Pakistani, as well as someone who’s a teenager.

The character of Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel, Marvel’s first Muslim character to star in her own comic book, was created by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, and Adrian Alphona in 2014, and won Hugo Award for best graphic story the following year.

Captain Marvel will premier worldwide in March, 2019.
