French fashion designer and fashion house founder Hubert de Givenchy has died

The French fashion designer and founder of the eponymous fashion house, Hubert de Givenchy has died.

The esteemed fashion icon died on Saturday, at the age of 91, the French news agency announced on Sunday.

Throughout a career that lasted more than 50 years, Givenchy has dressed the likes of Jackie of former US first lady Kennedy and his long-time muse Audrey Hepburn.

He founded la maison Givenchy in 1952 and sold it to LVMH in 1988, but stayed within the company as head of creative design until his retirement in 1995.

Givenchy is one of the world’s most recognized fashion brands and has been loved by some of Hollywood’s, and the world’s, biggest stars.

The fashion house is now headed by Clare Waight Keller, former creative director at Chloé, who is the brand’s first female artistic director.
