Different Mammals that live in the Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve in Lebanon

At the western slopes of Mount Lebanon, a wide range of mammals still live in the Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve.

While most of the wildlife in Lebanon has gone extinct since the Civil War, there’s one spot where flora and fauna are protected and still live strong. Since 2009, Jabal Moussa and its surrounding communities have been part of the UNESCO Network of Biosphere Reserves, protecting the large array of animals and plants living in the area.

Stretching over an area of 6500 hectares of mountainous terrain, the natural reserve lies between 350 and 1,700 meters above sea level. There, more 724 species of flora and 137 species of migratory and soaring birds species live, alongside some 25 different mammals.
