Everything You Knew About Your Goldfish Is Wrong

goldfish fish are in fact awesome pet if your take care of them correctly

Goldfish have been getting some bad rep as pets since they die quickly and have poor memory, but both are not true.

Despite being one of the most popular house pets, goldfish get a very bad reputation for all the wrong reasons. Because the problem with pet goldfish is you, not the poor little swimmer.

Well, first of all, they don’t have a bad memory. Goldfish can remember things up to 3 months, and those things include environment, sound and scenery. Any sudden change can scare it and cause it to die early.

Also, their lifespan is not 2 to 3 weeks, it can be as long as 20 years if you take care of them correctly.

A thing that people rarely know about goldfish is that they are ready to eat at any time, so don’t think they are hungry just because they are excited. In fact, goldfish are known to be selfish and could continue eating even when other fish in the tank go hungry.

Because of this reckless behavior, overeating is one of the main causes of goldfish deaths.

Feed your pet fish twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, and always at the same time.

And you can blame Tom & Jerry for not knowing this last fact (that’s where I learned that goldfish live in small bowls), but a bowl is not a perfect place for a goldfish to live.

Even though we know them to be few centimeters long, they can grow to become anywhere between 30 and 50 centimeter long. But their size depends largely on how much space they have to move around in.

Fish that live in bowl stop growing early, but their organs don’t stop growing, so their die early.

Therefore, make sure to ask your vet or pet shop person to explain, in details, how one takes proper care of a goldfish before you decide to bring one in to your home.
