The Doha Film Institute will launch Contemporary Releases with the Finnish film The Other Side of Hope.

Contemporary Releases is the newest program presented by the Doha Film Institute, and will be screening newer movies. They will include new festival favorites and independent films made by local DFI-grant filmmakers.

The screenings will start tomorrow, January 25, with The Other Side of Hope by the Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki.

It follows the story of a Syrian refugee, Khaled, who seeks asylum in Finland. Denied asylum, Khaled decides not to return to his warstruck hometown, and ends up meeting a middle-aged salesman named Wikström, who leaves behind his wife and job to buy an unprofitable seafood restaurant.

First show will run on Thursday, January 25 at 7 PM, with two more screening scheduled for the following day at 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM, at the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium.

Tickets for The Other Side of Hope are available on the DFI website or at ticket outlets, as well as at the MIA Auditorium. They are priced at QR 35, with a QR10 discount for students.

The project was created in collaboration with Katara, the Museum of Islamic Art, Qatar Museums and Aspire Park.
