Miss India Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World 2017

Femina Miss India 2017 Manushi Chhillar has been crowned Miss World 2017, the sixth pageant winner from India.

Following the footsteps of Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai, Manushi Chhillar, a 20-year-old medical student from Delhi, has been crowned Miss World 2017.

Chhillar put India alongside Venezuela in the history books as having the most Miss World titleholders. Both countries now have six titles to their name in the pageant’s history.

Being the daughter of two acclaimed doctors, Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar and Dr. Neelam Chhillar, Manushi is currently pursuing a medical degree at the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat.

Expressing her gratitude through Twitter, MAnushi, who is also Miss India, said:

“I am so happy that I have done my nation proud and I am very excited to begin a new journey! Thank you everyone for all the wishes, means the world to me.”

Trained as a Kuchipudi dancer under the legendary dancers Raja and Radha Reddy and Kaushalya Reddy, she also enjoys painting and hopes to open a chain of nonprofit hospitals in rural areas all over India.

During her Miss World 2017 campaign, she was the co-winner of the Beauty with a Purpose competition.

Manushi’s Beauty with a Purpose project was Project Shakti, a campaign focused on spreading menstrual hygiene awareness. During the project she visited more than 20 villages and treated over 5,000 women.

Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World 2017 on November 18, 2017, and was crowned by last year’s winner Stephanie del Valle from Puerto Rico.

The runners-up were Andrea Meza from Mexico and Stephanie Holl from England, respectively.
