Steamed Vegetables Vs. Cooked Vegetables

Cap know the difference between cooked vegetables and steamed vegetables

Despite tasting almost equally as good, there’s a big difference in nutrition and flavor between steamed vegetables and cooked vegetables.

There are many ways to go with vegetables, grilled, fried, tossed, raw, but we know the most nutritious to be either cooked vegetables or steamed vegetables. While the end result might look and taste very similar, they both are in fact quite different.

First, lets look into the technical differences.

When you cook vegetables, you’re basically letting them simmer into boiling water until they are fully cooked. This results in softer and more tender veggies.

On the other hand, steamed vegetables are cooked above steam released from boiling water. While they are also softer, they are generally firmer than cooked vegetables.

When steamed, vegetables retain more of their nutrients, since they don’t seep into the water they’re cooking in.

When cooked however, vegetables can be flavored with spices and flavors from other foods cooking in the same pot.

Both are good and choice is yours. Do you want flavor or nutrition?
