At the heart of Education City, Doha, the long-awaited Qatar National Library finally opened its doors to the public.

After five long years, the Qatar National Library in Education City is now available to anyone and everyone in the country. Located at heart of Education City, it is the largest library of its kind in the world.

Anyone with a Qatari ID can sign up for a free membership and enjoy their high-tech facilities and services, as well as an impressive and unique collection of books, journals, newspapers and magazines.

Members can easily check out books and other media from the main collection, or the children’s and teen’s libraries, and access the library’s creative and collaborative facilities, which includes a writing center, innovation stations and study rooms.

The Qatar National Library also launched a digital platform within their new website, www.qnl.qa, through which residents can register to become members, search for books, and reserve rooms and facilities.

Spread across more than 45,000 square-meters, the building currently houses some 800,000 books, with the capacity to accommodate more than a million. Mainly in Arabic and English, the collection includes works in more than 17 languages.

Some of the national library’s most prominent services are the self-check in and check-out services, the people mover system, the Heritage Library, and also an assistive technology area.

Located at the center of the main library building, the Heritage Library includes rare and valuable texts and manuscripts dating back to early Arab and Islamic civilizations.
