There were tens of nominations but only a handful went home with Emmy Awards. These are the shows that won on Sunday.
Like every year, the Primetime Emmy Awards honored the best prime time television programs of the year during a big gala on Sunday. From the Microsoft Theater in Central Los Angeles, in a ceremony hosted by Stephen Colbert, the following shows and movies took home the big prize.
Outstanding Comedy Series: “Veep”
This American adaptation of the British sitcom The Thick follows the day-to-day activity of US President Selina Meyer, and her experience with the political games that define the American political branch.
Outstanding Drama Series: “The Handmaid’s Tale”
In the aftermath of a great civil war i the United States, a sectarian theonomic government rises to control a population going extinct as a result of sexually transmitted diseases and environmental pollution.
Outstanding Limited Series: “Big Little Lies”
Based on the same-titled best-seller by Liane Moriarty, “Big Little Lies”, the show explores the dark reality hidden behind the big mansions and lavish lifestyles of the people of Monterey, California.
Outstanding Television Movie: “Black Mirror: San Junipero”
The fourth episode of the third series of British science fiction anthology series Black Mirror tells the tale of a shy woman visiting the beach resort town of San Junipero in 1987, where she finds herself in love with a regular.
Outstanding Reality-Competition Program: “The Voice”
Currently in its 12th season, The Voice is the American version of the popular reality-competition singing program that has taken the world by storm.
Outstanding Variety Talk Series: “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”
He will tell you last week’s, but in his own way. Millions around the world tune in weekly to hear John Oliver’s take on politics, trending topics and other global issues.
Outstanding Variety Sketch Series: “Saturday Night Live”
Saturday Night Live is arguably one of the best comedy sketch-series in history. It was there comedy legends such as Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Adam Sandler and Mike Myers made a name for themselves.
