The SCDL Qatar have unveiled the design of Al Thumama Stadium, the sixth 2022 FIFA World Cup stadium.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy in Qatar have just revealed the design for Al Thumama stadium, the sixth out of seven venues that will host 2022 FIFA World Cup matches.
Out of all stadiums that will host the region’s first football World Cup, Al Thumama stadium is the only one designed by a local architect.

Al Thumama stadium was designed to resemble a traditional Arab skullcap.
The visionary behind the stadium’s unique design is renowned Qatari architect Ibrahim M Jaidah, who previously designed Qatar Museums’ Fire Station gallery and Doha’s new Ministry of Interior building.
The 40,000-seat Al Thumama stadium will be built to resemble a gahfiya, a traditional woven headwear that is worn all over the Arab world. The gahfiye is usually either worn alone, or underneath the ghutra and agal.
This symbolic design embodies everything that unites us as Arabs and Muslims, and is a fitting tribute to the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East,” said Hassan al-Thawadi, Qatar’s 2022 committee chief.
Located between E-Ring and F-Ring Roads, Al Thumama is being constructed by a joint Qatar-Turkey venture between Al Jaber Engineering and Tekfen.
It is expected to be completed by 2020, and will be dismantled to accommodate half of its capacity after the world cup.
In its final form, the stadium will become a sports and leisure center with outdoor pitches, basketball courts, professional size pools and running tracks, as well as a hotel and a commercial area.
