Netflix Signs On Hit Producer Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes, along with Shondaland and Betsy Beers, will be working with Netflix

Netflix have announced a multi-year contract with producer/screenwriter Shonda Rhimes, who created shows like Grey’s Anatomy & Scandal.

Ending a 15-year-long relationship with ABC Studios, Shonda Rhimes and her production company Shondaland will begin producing new series for Netflix over the coming years. She will however remain involved in her current projects.

Along with Rhimes, executive producer and Shondaland partner Betsy Beers will also come to Netflix. Together the two have created some of the most popular television series’ this past decade, including Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Private Practice, How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch.

August has been a busy month for Netflix, other than signing on Shondaland and Rhimes, they have announced their first Chinese-language Original Series, a Western anthology series written and directed by the Coen brothers named The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs and two other series.

Also in August, Netflix announced that they had acquired comic book publisher Millarworld in their first ever acquisition. Established by pioneer comic book creator Mark Millar, the man behind popular comic books like Kick-Ass, Kingsman, Old Man Logan and Wanted, it will be working on new characters and storylines for the company.

They even went on a brought David Letterman back to the screen. Two years after retiring from a 33-year-long career of hosting the late-night TV, David Letterman signed a six-episode contract with Netflix

The six, hour-long, episode show is expected to start airing next year, and will feature “in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humor,” Netflix said in a statement.
