Qatar Buys $41 Million NYC Townhouse

Qatar might have bought luxurious NYC townhouse

Qatar allegedly bought a 3rd lavish townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Can you guess what for?

The luxurious townhouse on 12 East 73rd Street of the Upper East Side in Manhattan, New York, was put up for sale in June 2016 for $42.5 million. It was sold on January this year in an off-market deal to an anonymous buyer, but the New York Post believes it was purchased by Qatar.

The 966 square-meter house has five floors, as well as a basement and a beautiful roof deck. Wandering inside, you would find grand entertainment rooms, formal dining rooms, a gym, massage room as well as many other facilities.

As for the living quarters of the house, it includes five bedrooms, five luxurious full bathrooms, three powder rooms and nine fireplaces.

Qatar bought the mansion from billionaire Andrew Farkas, the founder of the real estate merchant bank Island Capital Group.

Several media sources claimed that the country bought the property because it sits adjacent to two other houses that Qatar owns. It will reportedly be used to house the royal staff whenever royals are visiting the city.

Whether or not the reports about the purchase and its motives are true has still not been confirmed by the state. But either way, the house is pretty amazing.
