Who Has The Fastest Internet In The World

While Qatar has one of the fastest internet speeds in the world, how well does it rank among other countries in the region.

The global cloud delivery platform, Akamai Technologies, just released their latest figures on internet speeds around the world. While having the fastest internet has become something people hold close to national pride, we finally know which people have the right to brag.

According to the (Q1) 2017 State of the Internet Report, Qatar is leading the region – Middle East and Africa – with an average connection speeds of 13.7 Mbps, an increase of 64% from last year.

Qatar also recorded the highest average peak connection speed in the region, and the 7th highest in the world, at 107.9 Mbps. It’s the first time Qatar breaks the 100 Mbps threshold, marking a 21% year-on-year increase.

While the overall global average stands at 7.2 Mbps, South Korea takes home the prize for the world’s fastest internet with a 28.6 Mbps average. South Korea is followed by Norway, where the average internet speed is clocked at 23.5 Mbps, and Sweden taking up the third spot with 22.5 Mbps.

Yemen remained at the bottom of the list, with a 24% quarterly decrease, it is officially the country with the lowest average internet connection speed at 1.0 Mbps. Paraguay has the second lowest average speed at 1.4 Mbps, followed by Gabon, Liberia, Syria, and Venezuela – all sharing the 3rd spot from the bottom with an average speed of 1.8 Mbps.
