Supermodel Halima Aden made history after becoming first hijabi model to appear on a Vogue cover.
Women wearing hijab have a lot to celebrate this Ramadan, because Vogue Arabia just featured a beautiful woman clad in hijab for the first time in the magazine’s history – Halima Aden.

The American-based model of Somali origin expressed her excitement on Instagram, saying:
“That surreal & dreamlike feeling the moment you see yourself on the cover of @VogueArabia cannot be explained! I’m beyond appreciative for the opportunity to grace the June cover.”
Ending the post with “#covergirl”, a well-deserved right to brag.
19-year-old Halima was born in Kenya to Somali parents who had fled the war. At the age of six she moved to Minnesota, USA.
In 2016, she became the first contestant to participate in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant wearing hijab throughout the entire competition, as well as a burkini.
The beauty also caught attention earlier this year during her runway debut. In February she rocked her hijab down the catwalk at the New York Fashion Week, modeling for Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5.

The world has not seen the last of Halima Aden. She recently signed with IMG Models, home to some of the world’s biggest supermodels, like the Gigi and Bella Hadid and Miranda Kerr.
She is the agency’s first hijab-wearing model.
The monthly Vogue magazine was first published as a weekly newspaper in 1892 in the United States. In 1916, their first international edition was launched with British Vogue.
Today, the publication has 22 international editions, with Vogue Arabia, launched October 2016, being the latest.
