Brad Pitt takes on the Afghanistan War as four-star General Glen McMahon in the action-comedy War Machine.
Part true, part made up, War Machine is a brutal parody on the rise and fall of former US General Stanley McChrystal, former commander of Joint Special Operations Command And Commander of the US Forces in Afghanistan.
Brad Pitt is General Glen McMahon, a super-confident military leader that is sent to Afghanistan to end the war, but he has other plans, he wants to win it. It is not long before this brave-hearted general finds himself under attack from all sides.
The movie War Machine is a satirical take on the nonfiction book The Operators by Michael Hastings – who died in a mysterious car crash in 2013 after running from the FBI, whom he believed were investigating him.
Despite being fictional, the movie draws a lot of inspiration from actual events of the Afghanistan War, as well as the lead character’s resemblance to General Stanley McChrystal.
The movie also features stars like Ben Kingsley as President Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, Tilda Swinton as a German politician, as well as an appearance from Russell Crowe.
