4 Qatari Movies At The 2017 Cannes Film Festival

We found trailers to four Qatari movies the Doha Film Institute will be promoting at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

This year, Qatari movies will be taking over the Cannes Film Festival. A total of 10 movies that were either made in Qatar or funded by the Doha Film Institute, will be screened across two events from May 17 to 28.

Here are four trailers from the 10 Qatari movies, giving you just a glimpse of what to expect from local filmmakers at the international platform.

Al-Johara directed by Nora Al-Subai

Al-Johara is a Qatari cinderella story, the reimagination of a popular fairtale in a contemporary context with a taste of Qatari culture. Al-Johara, a kind-hearted beauty that is constantly mistreated and exploited by her stepmother and stepsisters, have her life changed when she gets invited to a wedding. Her wildest dreams might come true, and they might not.

Amer: An Arabian Legend by Jassim Al-Rumaihi

This short documentary tells the inspiring story of the legendary Arabian horse known as Amer.

The Doha Film Institute was established in 2010 by Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and has ever since been dedicated to supporting and promoting the Qatari film industry.

The institute encourages local and regional movies through funding and grants, educates aspiring filmmakers through workshops, and recognizes local productions through appreciation and awards.
