You might not have heard, but there’s now an easier way to get a verified twitter account. Here’s how even you can fill out a request.
The blue checkmark next to a person’s name on twitter has become an iconic symbol for social status. While twitter once hand-picked profiles worthy of the blue checkmark, in July 2016 they made it possible for everyone to at least apply for a verified twitter account.
Keep in mind that this means that most applicants will not ending up getting verified. Their website states that they approve “account types maintained by users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas,” but depending on how many followers you have and where you live, it might be easier for you to be classified as worthy.
The application process is rather simple, you visit twitter support, click on “My account” and proceed to “Managing your account” in the left sidebar, and then “Verified accounts” in the same bar.
From there on, you are told about the information you need to submit to have your application processed. We’re nice, so we will save you the trouble and help you prepare.
You’ll need to provide them with:
- A verified phone number
- A confirmed email address
- A bio
- A profile photo
- A header photo
- A birthday (unless the account belongs to a company, brand, or organization)
- A website
- And have your Tweets set as public in Tweet privacy settings
In the bottom-most section of the page, find where it says “submit a request to verify an account by filling out this form” (first sentence), or click here, and you’ll be on your way.
The trickiest part might be the last one. You will need to include two websites that could help them identify you or your brand, as well as a 500 maximum letter explaining why you should have a verified twitter account.
If you believe you are worthy of it, go ahead and let us know how it goes.
