Snapchat Introduces World Lenses

Snapchat intoduces new World Lenses tool

Facebook will have trouble keeping up with Snapchat as they release their newest Augmented Reality-based tool, World Lenses.

The race between Facebook and Snapchat has been ongoing for a while now. Facebook recently introduced stories, a Snapchat creation, into all of their platforms – Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

It was around a year ago that they introduced lenses, which gained huge popularity. Unarguably, the puppy face and flower crown filters. Shortly after, along with stories, Facebook released their own version of the same tool.

By introducing Snap-like features, Facebook launched a war on Snapchat and now they are fighting back.

On Tuesday, April 18, Snap Inc. announced their newest and most advanced tool, Augmented Reality-powered World Lenses.

These new filters are more interactive with you and world around you. While “snapping with the rear-facing camera, simply tap the camera screen to find new Lenses that can paint the world around you with new 3D experiences!”, the developers announced in a blog post.

Using World Lenses is easy, here’s Snapchat’s very own guide:

  • Open Snapchat to the camera screen.
  • Use the rear-facing camera — tap the ? button in the top right of the screen if you’re in selfie mode!
  • Tap on any surface ?
  • A selection of different Lenses should appear at the bottom of the screen. Just swipe over to the World Lens you want to use!
  • Tap it to switch between different options (like different captions or Bitmoji poses). You can also drag it to move it around or pinch your fingers in and out to change its size!

However, the statement mentioned that Text Lenses are only available in a few specific places at the moment, but promised that they will be expanding into other areas soon.
