QSTec Marks Milestone In MENA

Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) just started production at the largest polysilicon production plant in the Middle East and North Africa.

A major breakthrough in the region’s solar industry took place in past few days as Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) successfully started operations at their in plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

The 8,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) plants successfully commenced and manufactured their first polysilicon.

QSTec is currently the largest polysilicon manufacturing plant in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and has announced plans of expanding their operations to start producing as much as 50,000 MTPA in the coming years.

Polysilicone, more generally known as polycrystalline silicon and sometimes poly-Si, is a high purity, polycrystalline form of silicon that is the raw material used by the solar photovoltaic and electronics industry. About 90 percent of the world’s solar harvesters depend on polysilicon.

QSTec as an organizations, has made several investments around the world into all aspects of solar energy technology, including SolarWorld AG, the largest integrated solar module manufacturer in Europe and the US, as well as the world’s leading solar and semi-conductor technology company, Centrotherm AG.

This has made QSTec a globally integrated solar company that has the privilege to operate within the shared technological abilities of all its partners, as these companies have formed a larger solar consortium with the shared aim of creating more efficient solar power.

Today, QSTec sports a state-of-the-art facility that was built with a futuristic environmentally friendly philosophy. It includes a wide range of green technology, like next-gen reactors and energy efficient cooling systems, as well as advanced waste treatment facilities that recycle excess gases and water for reuse in a closed loop system.
