Doha Festival City To Open In Two Weeks

Doha Festival City - birds eye view

Entertainment, retail and hospitality in Qatar have a new destination. The long-awaited Doha Festival City is finally set to open its doors this spring.

Doha Festival CityDoha Festival City, awaited for years, just announced an opening date. The QR 6 billion project began in October 2011, and took a little longer than its initial opening date, but the wait will surely be worth it.

Located just north of Doha, right on Al Shamal Road, across from IKEA, it will open on April 5, introducing big names and destinations to Qatar.

It’s all about big and new at Doha Festival City. The mall will feature more than 500 shops, including flagship stores from some world known designers and brands. Other than retail stores, it will feature entertainment for the whole family, including Snow Dunes, a large indoor snow and ski park, Angry Birds World theme park and Virtucity gaming lounges.

The mall is expected to welcome as much as 20 million visitors a year, not a surprise considering that it will be hosting the world’s largest Monoprix hypermarket.

It will also be home to Juniverse, the world’s first city in space. A city “created by children for children”, where kids can explore the “careers of tomorrow today”. Spanning over 6,000 sqm, Juniverse has more than 45 role-play activities set in a futuristic environment with its own governing system.

Virtucity is the game park designer for adults. This gaming paradise has it all, an eSports coliseum with both PC and console stations, racing simulators, arcades and escape rooms. It will also be hosting tournaments and competitions all year round.

It will also be hosting a VOX Cinemas facility with 18 digital screens, four of them new concepts – 4DX, Theater by Rhodes, MAX and VOX Kids – exclusive to Doha Festival City.

April 5 is just two weeks away, and it seems like we know where everyone will be spending their week.
