The Qatar chapter of Mother India’s Crochet Queen is setting out to achieve yet another Guinness World Record after breaking the record for making the world’s largest crochet blanket.

The Qatar chapter of the Mother India’s Crochet Queen is made of up 60 Indian women based in Qatar. These women have put their talents and dedication together to weave the world’s longest crochet scarf, and hopefully break yet another Guinness World Record.

The campaign has become a world initiative, with MICQ members from all over the world joining in, giving a helping hand. While it is expected of each member to contribute with a minimum of five scarves each, measuring 7×8 inches, some are contributing with up to 50 scarves and more.

Over the last two months, more than 150 scarves have been shipped from Qatar to Chennai, India.

The most common mode of transportation has become by plane, accompanying a MICQ member who is back home on vacation.

MICQ Qatar chapter is led by Vaishnavi Kuppuswamy, who aims to be able to send up to 300 scarves to India for their part. All of the scarves that make it to Chennai will be woven together, forming one extremely large scarf worthy of the world record title.

The latest contribution will be accepted before March 31, whereas the Guinness officials will be inspecting the scarf for evaluation in May.

There are more than 1,800 women between the age of 8 and 85 involved in the campaign, from both inside India and all over the world.

Once complete and the record has been set, the group will donate the scarves to NGOs that will give them to people in need across India.
