Arab and international sensations the Chehade Brothers will be performing in Doha this weekend, here’s their story.
Brothers, Farid and Rami Chehade, were born and raised in the Old City of Jerusalem in Palestine to a home where art was part of everyday life. Both brothers took up music early on, and it wasn’t long until they had mastered oriental musical and poetic arts like zajal, ghazal, hija’a and taqsim. They also mastered most, if not all, musical instruments historically used by the Arab world, including the oud, bouzok, kanoun, violon, double bass, cello, nay, chabbabeh, tabla, katem, riq .
For years they toured Palestine, the Arab World and beyond, putting on very vibrant shows, delivering a part of Arab heritage and folklore all over the world. But they had even bigger aspirations and wanted to achieve through their music.
Although they were popular back at home and represented Jerusalem all over the world, the two young brothers moved to Lebanon during their twenties looking for a career in pop culture. In Beirut, they joined the Oriental Roots Orchestra that had just been formed by the Michel Elefteriades, a prominent Lebanese music producer.
With the support if Elefteriades, the Chehade Brothers released their first album, called “Café de la Méditéranée”, which was made up of 10 songs.
