Qatar-Germany Year of Culture 2017 Starts Next Month

Get read for a full year of German culture in Qatar as the Qatar-Germany Year of Culture 2017 kick-off early.

Over the course of 2017, Qatar will be hosting several cultural exchange events with the country of Germany as part of the Qatar-Germany Year of Culture 2017. The first of which will kick-off as early as on Wednesday, February 2, with a concert by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra at the Katara Opera House.

The orchestra will perform four movements from the Doha Secrets symphony, which will include several Qatari artists like Dana Al Ferdan, Wael bin Ali and Haamed Hussein Al Naama, alongside German conductor David Niemann and Gerhard Oppitz on the piano.

Throughout the year, Qatar will be hosting more than a dozen Germany-themed events, with several other Qatari-themed events taking place in Germany.

One of the exhibitions that will be held in Germany, is a look into the lives of some Qatari citizens living in the European country.

The Year of Culture 2017 is aimed to fortify the cultural understanding between Qatar and Germany, and bring the two people closer.

This will be sixth year of culture that Qatar Museums hosts in collaboration of foreign nations. The first project started with a year of cultural exchange with Japan back in 2012. In 2013 Qatar collaborated with the United Kingdom, Brazil in 2014, Turkey in 2015 and in 2016 Qatar teamed up with China.
