Doha Metro Project Nearing Final Phase

Doha Metro

Qatar Rail have been busy and are about to get busier as they put down their goals for the Doha Metro project in 2017.

With all tunnels dug and complete and less than three years until the first Doha Metro opens for passengers, Qatar Rail hopes to have laid down all tracks in place before the end of the year.

With a project as big as this one, it is easy to miscalculate and land behind on schedule, but Qatar Rail are making sure to always stay ahead. While all tunnels have been completed, and all tracks will be installed before the end of 2017, you’d think there’s not much more to it, but there still remains a lot to be done and they are trying to have it all made in Flash speed.

On their agenda for 2017, Qatar Rail plans to have finished 70 percent installment of the country’s new and sophisticated public transportation project.

To do so, they will need to, before the end of the year, have all rails in place and already put the first four driver-less trains to the test, and started looking into operator contracts.

The first four autonomous metro carts will be arriving in Doha this year, with 71 more units following within the upcoming three years.

There are currently some 37 stops under construction around Doha for the first stage of the metro. They have already had most of the electrical infrastructure installed and will soon be ready for their first train.

The first Doha Metro passenger trains are expected to open sometime right between 2019 and 2020 across three lines, red, green and gold.
