Door to Hell (Derweze, Turkmenistan)

This is a huge pit of fire that has been burning since 1971. Yes, since 1971. A team of Soviet engineers tried to burn out the natural gas field they discovered in a mine, but they didn’t expect it to burn for decades to come. So far, there haven’t been any signs that the fire will stop anytime soon.

 

The Island of the Dolls (Mexico)

Just outside of Mexico City, there is this small island which was inhabited by a Julián Santana Barrera. For over 50 years, he hung up discarded dolls he found floating in around the river to appease the spirit of a small girl who drowned nearby which he believes haunted him until he died of a heart attack near the same river. The dolls are still hanging everywhere.

 

 

Pripyat, Ukraine

This is Nuketown level 100. Almost 50,000 people lived in the city when the Chernobyl nuclear disaster happened. The inhabitants were evacuated quickly and left everything behind. Today, there’s a super creepy nuclear amusement park just waiting for you to visit.

 

 

 

Capela dos Ossos (Évora, Portugal)

Portugal is a true home to some of the creepiest places on earth. In the city of Évora, there is a chapel built by a monk in the 1500s, which he decorated with over 5,000 skeletons from other monks. There is even a child’s body hanging from the roof of the Chapel of Bones.

Under the city of Paris, yes, the romantic French city of Paris, there’s a 200 miles-long network of tunnels that is home to over 6 million bodies.
