From the very first scenes of The OA, you’ll get intrigued and wondrous. The more you find out, the more intrigued you’ll get. It is a story that unfolds into a new story, and each story is more captivating that the one that led up to it.
The show starts with a woman who has been held captive for seven year returning home, well sort of, in a very strange way. Her adoptive parents are happy to see their daughter again, and want to know where she had been, but she doesn’t say a word. Her parents call her Prairie Johnson, but she calls herself The OA, and sometimes she goes by the name Nina Azarov.
Once you think you have the plot figured out, you’ll be surprised, you’ll be amazed, and you’ll go back to being as wondrous as you were in the beginning, and even beyond.
The show debuted on Netflix on December 16, and is created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. It is the duo’s third collaboration together, where this time, Batmanglij is directing, and Marling starring as Prairie Johnson, The OA.
Season one consists of eight episodes, and currently has a 85% critical approval rating and an average rating of 9.0/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. If you loved Stranger Things, then you will definitely like this one. There’s a lot of mysticism and mystery, a perfect blend of sci-fi, spirituality and thrill.
