Using an activated charcoal mask is probably one of the easiest and most efficient ways to clean your skin and rid it of any dirt that might have clogged your pores, even blackheads. Activated charcoal is type of carbon that has been specifically processed to have many small pores so that there’s more surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions. Medically, it is used to treat poisoning, intestinal gas, drug and alcohol overdoses, and in our case, skin impurities.

Another product that is great at pulling dirt from pores is bentonite clay. Bentonite enjoys a lot of similar characteristics as activated charcoal, and is sometimes ingested to pull toxins from the body. When you use it on the outside of your body however, like on the skin, it absorbs toxins and draws out blackheads.

Charcoal Mask:

Before you start, it is important that you remember to only use plastic or wooden tools and instruments to create, apply and store your mask, like a wooden or plastic spoons and containers. Because both activated charcoal and bentonite clay have the ability to suck toxins out of metals.

You will need about a gram of activated charcoal, finely ground into powder, a teaspoon of bentonite clay and about three teaspoons of water, try to make it drinking water. Mix all three together into a smooth and even paste, and you’re ready to go.

Wash your face with a mild cleanser or your daily face wash and pat it dry, but not too dry, you want to keep it moist. From here on it is just to apply the an even coat like you would with any other facial mask. Let it dry for about 10 minutes. You will feel it tightening on your skin once it becomes ready to remove. Wash of the paste and clean your face gently with a clean towel.

You might want to apply some moisturizer since the mask might pull out some moisture as well. It would be best to use a mild, natural moisturizer.
