Glitch – Netflix Review

Watch Glitch on Netflix

As Netflix takes over the second season of Glitch, catch up with what you already missed.

Even though not a Netflix Original per se, the Australian paranormal television series that originally broadcasted on ABC1 will return globally on Netflix for its second season. Glitch premiered in July 2015, and is set in the fictional Australian remote town of Yoorana, a small country town that is quiet until the unexpected happens.

The captivating story starts when small town policeman James Hayes (Patrick Brammall) is called out to the local cemetery in the middle of the night after receiving a call about some weird events, that’s when his life and the future of the town is changed forever. What first seems to be as a group of disoriented and naked people on drugs, turns out to be a group of returnees from the afterlife. Six people from different historic periods have risen out of their graves, with no recollection of who they are or how they died.

Hayes calls local doctor Elishia McKellar (Genevieve O’Reilly) for medical assistance, and the two take it upon themselves to keep the six returnees safe, in fear of what kind of testing would be done to them if the public and government found out the truth. As Hayes discovers that the six can not leave the town borders, or they’ll die and decompose within seconds, he finds his ex-wife who have been dead for two years among them.

With everything going on, police chief Vic gets involved in a violent car accident as he is investigating the graves. He survives, but emerges “different”.

The show is written by Louise Fox, Kris Mrksa, and Giula Sandler, and is directed by Emma Freeman. The first season was awarded the Australian Director’s Guild Awards for Best Direction in a Television Drama Series, TV Week Logies Most Outstanding Drama Series, and the AACTA Awards for Best Television Drama and Best Original Score in Television.
